10 Steps to Living an Authentic Life
Would you like to live an authentic life?
Here are my ‘10 Steps to Living an Authentic Life‘
Know Your Vision
Living an authentic life requires knowing what you want to create. Are you creating your life by leading or are you following someone else’s plan? Our family, friends, bosses, work colleagues will have created this idea/image of who we are yet who we are could be someone who has yet to immerse above that image. Distinguish the difference between who others want you to be and who you want to become. Question yourself right now, ‘Am I Where I want to be?’ and if the answer is ‘no’ then change something to lead you to where you do want to be. This is where your vision will be translating into your reality. We all have a vision of where we are going, even if it is following someone else’s plan. But at any time we can change the course and start living the life we choose to live. You just have to believe it and dream it to start living it.
Let Go of the Good Opinion of Others
You will have this distinct knowing of what is good for you and you will find people who will disagree with what you believe to be true. Your vision will be so clear, yet you will have someone who will go against what you see. Stay true to your vision and who you are. Have certainty in your vision without the good opinion of others. The more you say no you become stronger in who you are.
Stand Up for What You Believe In
Never be afraid to voice how you feel and what you believe. The more authentic you are to you, the more you inspire others to do the same. You should never shut yourself down because you are afraid of how they may act or think of you. You live with the decisions and choices you make in your life, nobody else’s. Your truth is the most important reflection of who you are.
Surround Yourself with Like-Minded People
If you have ever found yourself feeling lonely in a room full of people who don’t understand you, then find a new crowd. Surround yourself with people who reflect what you believe in and who have the same interests as you. Who are you trying to please by staying there? Yourself or them? Go and be around people who understand you, who want to see you grow, who are happy for you, who get excited with you at the opportunities that life throw your way.
Give Back to the Community
Your life becomes enriched when you are giving back to the community in some way. When you are dedicating your time, energy and love into something that is to a worthy cause. The legacy you leave will not be about what you have achieved, but it will be about the difference you have made in another person’s life.
Work With People Who Have The Same Vision As You
Do you work for someone who has the same vision as you? Are you working towards a bigger picture to create something life changing. Do you feel demoralized by your boss or work colleagues? If so, go back to the basis and figure out what your vision is and align yourself with people who have that same vision.
Travel the World
Don’t wait until the end of the year for your 2-week break to go and travel. Travel every 2 months, take a break, set the rules, live your life the way YOU want to. Go and experience the best kept secrets. Even if it is in your own back yard. You gain a different perspective on life and press the reset button to come back stronger and clearer in where you are going.
Expand Your Knowledge
Read books, read articles, watch documentaries, watch movies, listen to podcasts. Grow and expand your knowledge further then what you already know. You can never stop learning. You can never ever learn enough in your life. You are always growing and learning. You can learn voluntarily and you can learn experientially. The difference with voluntarily is you can look at your life and question what you would like to grow in and learn about it by someone who has been there and done that. If you only grow through experientially, you will be taken into paths of unknown where you will be challenged and guided.
Simplify Your Life
Cut the clutter. Get rid of what you don’t need. How much ‘stuff’ do you surround yourself in? Simplify your life and keep what is purposeful. Everything in your home should have a purpose and use. Your home is a representation of how you feel about yourself. If you surround yourself with clutter, you are holding onto baggage. Let it go and surround yourself in a home that is a blessing to be in.
Always and most importantly, have a strong relationship with that energy who created you. Everything is in absolute alignment when you acknowledge this divine spirit within you. Your relationships flourish, and everything is at ease when you feel connected and grounded. You are never disconnected, you are ALWAYS connected and supported. To feel disconnected is to not exist. In the wise words of Neale Donald Walsch “its not a matter of ‘if God is listening to me’, it’s a matter of who is listening to God”.
